Beavercreek concludes another top caliber
Cross Country season with many highlights and individual
accomplishments. Saturday in Troy, Ohio, where both girls' and boys' seasons
ended, but not without a gallant fight.
The girls' team narrowly missed qualifying for state by finishing
5th, with the top four teams advancing. Jessika Olnhausen tied her
personal best time of 19:07. This qualified her for state competition
this year as one of the top 16 individuals in this race and she is returning
to this event for the 2nd time in her career. Audrey Holbrook only
missed attending by 3 positions as she was 2nd for the team and 19th place
overall. For the team, Jenny Wisniewski was 3rd, Randall Williams 4th, Erin
Code 5th with a personal best of 20:30, Melinda Lim 6th and Bridget Hatfield
7th. Two weeks ago, the girls won the Central division of GWOC, Greater
Western Ohio Conference, and Jack Holliday was named coach of the year. Last
week, the girls' team finished 2nd at the Southwest District Meet and
qualified a regional team which has been the case every year since their
program's inception, a remarkable feat.
The boys were
led by Nate Spears, who only missed attending the state meet by 2
positions as he was 18th overall. Patrick Taylor finished 2nd for the team
followed by Bryan Petry 3rd, Scott Szalejko 4th, Ben Leininger 5th, David
Speaker 6th and John Petry 7th. Two weeks ago, the boys finished 3rd overall
in the GWOC. Last week they competed in the Southwest District Meet held at
Dayton Miami Valley Technical Career Center and placed third as a team. They
had 7 runners in the top 20. Then for the 32nd straight year advanced to
Regionals and finished behind all the state powers from Dayton and
Cincinnati. The team ran a 17:37 average time with 10 teams running under
17:00 minutes, some of the best averages state wide.
All in
all, it was a season most teams state-wide would be proud to claim. |
