Troy 35 - Creek 21
Beavercreek played Troy regularly in the
60s, 70s and early 80s. Creek won the last of that series in
1981 by a 6-0 score. In fact, over that series of games the
Beavers
and Trojans had an even split, 10-10.
Of late Troy has been advertised as a
power team but they came into Beavercreek with a 1-1 record, just
like ours. Barring a few miscues the game outcome could have
been very different. Creek rushed for 285 yards against
powerhouse Troy, 229 of them a phenomenal effort by Dee Wallace.
After a scoreless first quarter Chad White found the end zone
on a 7 yard run. The game continued close and after a second
Troy score the Beavers had another good drive near the half
but
Troy cashed in an interception opportunity to end the half with a 14
point lead.
The third quarter for Beavercreek was
like starting over. The offense could not find the end zone but the
defense held Troy scoreless. A Troy score early in the fourth
quarter sparked the Beavers into action to avoid a rout. Dee
Wallace scored twice, first on a 40 yard run and then a 1
yard run. Pat Williams was perfect on extra points and
the Beavers were a touchdown away working on their third drive of
the quarter but Troy captured the final score and the 35-21 win.
The good continues to be great
effort. A few examples . . . .Williams averaged over 35 yards per kickoff
. . .
Avid Pureval had a strong game including a 25 yard punt . . .
Jack Jones continued his solid performance with 45 yards
rushing, 24 passing and 4 kick off returns.
The bad includes 8 penalties and
allowing Troy to rush for over 309 yards.
The Beavers will regroup and head to
Lebanon for another challenging contest this Friday. This
year's team has proven they can put together multiple, solid scoring
drives. To win this week they not only have to keep their
scoring machine active but shore up their defense.
