Fairmont
25 - Beavercreek 22 2OT
Beavercreek's second season under head
coach Scott Clodfelter was a roller coaster ride starting with early
season hope followed by mid season disappointment and finishing with
a renewed team ethic that brought the team to the brink of improving
on last year's record.
Creek punted
away their first possession as did
Fairmont. The nextBeaver possession started with a Dee Wallace return,
sustained with Jack Jones and Wallace carries took Creek into the
second quarter where a Jack Jones run and Pat Williams extra point
gave Creek the lead. Fairmont ruined their next drive with a
fumble on the Creek 9 yard line where the Beaver's took over.
They converted a 4th and one and a 4th and 3 to drive into Firebird
territory but were stopped with a penalty and missed field goal.
Fairmont opened the third quarter with a
touchdown but missed the extra point and the teams entered the
fourth quarter with a 7-6 Creek lead. The next Beaver scoring
drive started with an Eric Hill punt return. A Creek
penalty was countered by a Fairmont interference penalty that gave
the Beavers a first down. Creek recovered their own fumble and
kept the drive alive that resulted in a Wallace touchdown and
Williams extra point for a 14-6 lead with 5:09 left in the game.
Fairmont tied the game (14-14) at 0:57 with a Cameron Campeau run
and two point conversion to move the game into overtime.
Fairmont took the temporary lead with a
score and two point conversion. On the Beaver possession Chad
White advanced
the
ball and Dee Wallace ran in the tying TD and two point conversion.
Creek had first possession in the second overtime and was shut down
when a 4th and 20 resulted in a pass interception. Creek
defense stepped up and three Fairmont penalties forced the Firebirds
to chance a field goal which made the final difference.
Dee Wallace rushed for 172 yards, Jack
Jones 55 and Chad White 32. White threw for 50 yards and Eric
Hill had his first completion of the year for 11 yards. Avid
Pureval had two receptions for 29 yards and Justin Hull one for 27
yards. Creek tallied eleven penalties for 95 yards. The
defense held Fairmont's rushing game to 201 yards.
Beavercreek finished the season in the
basement of the GWOC East with a 1-5 league and 2-6 overall record,
equaling last season's on the field record. The Beavers may
have endured severe growing pains this season, but team unity and
drive finished this season in high gear. It's time for this
year's Junior class to set the example and lead Beavercreek to a
winning record. Football is the only sport that requires year
round commitment. For the Beavers to improve in GWOC each
individual must dedicate themselves in the weight room (no absences)
and in the classroom (academic excellence each quarter).
